The LCG project encourages
participation by academic institutes in the field of high energy physics with suitable
computing infrastructures. Other (non LHC) computing centres
and organisations wishing to join the grid infrastructure should do
so in the context of the EGEE project. The
grid infrastructure is common to both projects.
The procedure for participating is:
- The local manager of the institute’s computing resources
should first contact the closest Tier1 or Tier2 centre,
or in case of doubt, contact the CERN
team
directly.
- For the majority of European sites the appropriate contact point
will be the local Regional Operations Centre: UK/Ireland, France,
Italy, South West Europe, South East Europe, Central Europe,
Northern Europe, Germany and Switzerland, or Russia. Refer to this
page for details on regional coverage and contact addresses.
- Others should contact the CERN team.
As part of this initial contact, important contact information
and other details of the site will be gathered and entered
into the
grid operations database. This information includes system
manager and security responsibility for the site.
- Once the point of support is established, there is a straightforward
procedure to be followed in order to get the middleware installed
and
configured at the site. Once the site is installed the operations
staff will verify the installation and configuration, and the site
will be added to the grid infrastructure. The procedure to be followed
can be seen via the "Getting
Started" link on the left, or by looking at the information provided
with every middleware release.
