Overall Strategy

Working Group 1 of the Grid Deployment Board has produced a document that details the starting technologies to be used for the LCG-1 prototype. The actual technologies used will certainly evolve over the coming months and years, but there needed to be a starting point from which to work and to try and deploy a computing service based on Grid Technologies.

The convergence with the EDG is foreseen with the EDG testbed 2 release. At this point the EDG and LCG will both be based on the same technology infrastructure which is broadly, Globus and Condor (as packaged and released by NMI and VDT) and the EDG components.

The actual components used for the LCG-1 infrastructure will depend on their maturity level and robustness. However this is expected to change with time.
