Deployment

The LCG Deployment group is responsible for deploying and operating the LHC computing environment. The responsibilities of the group and its collaborators include:

User Support

  • Consultancy service to provide a service directly to the experiments to assist in integrating the experiment software with grid middleware; liaison between experiments and LCG
  • Helpdesk services: a distributed operation run in conjunction with the operations centre providing distributed 24x7 global helpdesk-like user support via email, telephone, web entry points. Must provide a single point of contact to the user
  • Documentation: provide up-to-date documentation for the LCG services
  • Training: organise and provide training sessions, seminars, tutorials, etc in the use of the LCG system and services
  • Resource planning and scheduling

System support

  • certification and testing of identified packages provided by the grid development projects or other middleware providers
  • packaging and configuration: to provide a packaging of the LCG middleware that includes a configuration system, installation instructions, system administrator and user documentation
  • system administration and operation of certification testbeds at CERN, coordination of certification and testing activities across distributed testbed sites

Grid operations

  • Build and operate a distributed Grid Operations Centre, to perform performance monitoring, problem identification, troubleshooting and general operational oversight. The GOC will run in at least 3 sites to provide 24x7 global coverage
  • Infrastructure and grid service operation: to operate the grid-specific services (information providers, resource brokers, authentication and authorization services, etc.
